About the DIG CAMP Program

The DIG CAMP: Data in Geosciences Collaboration and Mentoring Program—Teaming Latine High School and College Students for Data Use in Geosciences Project goals were to:

• expose underrepresented Latine high school students to near-peer scientists so they saw science as a possible career pathway and to provide them with experiences that helped them see who does science, and how they do it
• develop and field test a replicable, data literacy geosciences education program that can be disseminated widely.

This 3-year project has iteratively developed an effective model to engage high school students in the process of collecting, evaluating, and interpreting place-based relevant data and provide college experiences focused on the geosciences via a residential research program and several academic year follow-up sessions, facilitated by trained near-peer undergraduate student mentors.

DIG CAMP was funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF Award # 2119547), and supplemented by The Kaleta A. Doolin Foundation funds (NSF Award # 2119822).
