Adina Paytan (co-PI) has worked directly as a mentor and undergraduate student thesis supervisor with over 100 students over her ~20 years as a geoscientist. Dr. Paytan has 5-10 undergraduate students working on projects in her lab each year for research credits or senior thesis and many of them present their work in meetings and publish in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Paytan has always been interested in education, earning a MS degree in Science Education, working as a science schoolteacher, and developing and teaching a wide variety of science classes at all levels based on cutting edge student-centered teaching and learning pedagogy. Additionally, she engages in many public outreach activities and has coordinated many programs that aim at improving STEM education, increasing diversity in STEM, providing professional development for early career scientists, and enhancing science literacy
